"ward" woke me this am and said that "demo dude" would be at the house in 45 minutes... but "ward" wasn't sure what time he called so... I rallied the girls FAST and we bolted out of the apartment to the homestead.... expecting to have missed the show...
OH NO BABY... no show missed. We were early. It was RAINING and LIGHTING.. I thought that demo dude had decided to hold off.... THEN LOOK what rolled down our quiet little street....
I was FILLED with EXCITEMENT...NERVES....JITTERS...a TAD bit of sadness but STAYED POSITIVE ! ! ! The girls were very excited. I asked them if they were sad and they said "yes". Crap ! now what? I asked why are they sad..."because we didn't save the sticker door !".... whew ! "well, girls... you can start a new on one the INSIDE of the new closet... the walk in closet that you will have in your bedroom !
the LARGE stump left from the old oak in the front gave "demo dude" a challenge. He pushed... he pulled... he dug the roots.. .and that thing would not move... but then....after 30-40 minutes... AHHHHHHHHHHH! the Angels Sang on High... The tree came out AND the rain stopped !
The First cut is the deepest.... Crunch... right into my son's room....
the water heater put on a great show...
SO... after 67 YEARS and 2 hours later...... this is where I left "demo dude"... the girls were tired.... the neighbors and friends who gathered for support and entertainment had gone "home".... ... Time for us to go "home" and relax ! Everyone asked me, " so are you sad?"...the quick answer " NO WAY !" " This is great!".... crap... I hope so ! Many memories here...married here.... lives concieved... parties, meals, friends, sleepless nights, lots of firsts... some "lasts" .... bitter sweet ! ...... gulp ! (a tear runs down my cheek)
xoxoxoxoxo Catherine!
Totally understand how you feel...having moved as many times as we did, it was hard to leave homes that we LIVED in...but we moved on to new experiences. Just think your kids don't need to make new friends (and you don't need to find schools, doctors, etc., etc.)
May this house quickly become your home...full of happy birthdays, family holidays, quiet moments, roasted marshmellows (smores anyone?), and parties with friends and family. What a wonderful new beginning!
