"there is a giant tree on your roof !"

Before:

IMG_0235

Built in 1942.  Purchased by "ward" in the early 80s for $50,000. It was 800 square feet. 2 bedrooms 1 bath on a great lot (70 x 120) on a great street, in a great section of town.... This is where we got married. (in the great back yard). After bringing home baby #2 we needed more rooms. Added approx. 900 square feet and a third child.  CRAMPED !  Bad Layout !  Old wiring ! Old Plumbing ! NO storage space ! DARK inside despite my best efforts with paint and more lighting.... Time to say good bye to her.

Later that same day....

I got a call from my neighbor, Sally,  saying, "there is a giant tree on your roof".  I could hear the LOUD buzz of the chain saw in the back ground ! YEAH !  So, progress is being made ! This really isn't some sick joke !  So, I missed the actual tree coming down, darn it ! but stopped by this am to see this giant crack splitting my little house. Cannot imagine what scurried out of that attic when that happened. (lots of questionable noises could be heard up there at times).

I am happy that someone got my ENTIRE kitchen that was only 6 years old... white bead board .. nice ! Bosch dishwasher, microwave went with the cabinets and counters.  Someone got my GE convection stove / oven.  The washer / dryer to a newly single mom. Ceiling fans, light fixtures, shutters, doors, both interior and exterior were salvaged....I am glad that so many people could use so much of this house that was good.  Crap... if there was just some way to salvage my BEAUTIFUL wooden floors... they were perfect.... oh well.IMG_0239

This WAS my tiny kitchen.... everything, gone! but see the floor? This 1/4 in hard wood went through out the entire house (except the bathrooms)...

To be continued as the bull dozer is slated for MONDAY MORNING>>>> ..... if you are local and want to watch... stop by. xoxo  Cath

you break it... you pay for it !

This has been said aloud several times around my house lately.... ESPECIALLY with "ward" doing some of the packing of the boxes....

Well... I cashed in on item number 1 today.

My dearly beloved Canon Power Shot sd 630 digital elph DIED.  And Crap on a stick... wouldn't you know it... I go to get her to take the typical birthday kid behind the sparlkling "6" birthday candle on the custom decorated birthday cake (by the 6 year old herself)... when I turned it on I heard the grinding sound.... That can't be good !  A message "lens something or other...."   CRAP ! CRAP ! CRAP ! on a big giant stick!

This little power house of a memory catcher did the her job for 3 full years.  COUNTLESS photos taken.... not just MY kids either.  She single lensedly brought me through the MANY MANY MANY photos taken for the school yearbook.....  No extended warranty at Best Buy.... STUPID ! STUPID ! STUPID !

With Taps being played... bur bur bur......... bur bur bur....... bur bur bur... bur bur bur.. bur bur... burrr ...bur ...bur... bur..........bur ...bur ... bur........burrrrr... .burrr burrrrrrrr! (ok, you play the bugle in writing.... and let me know how it sounds)

She is being laid to rest and being replaced by   another Canon..  Power Shot SD 1200 IS  Digital Elph. in a beautiful shade of aqua.  I'd take a picture of her and post her but..... duh... no camera and I cannot figure out how to hijack a photo off the web.

She is NOT the big girl camera that I want...I am ready to advance to the SLR but not sure where to turn there... waiting on the cousel of my mentor  Michele Skinner.... hint hint MS !  (any advice on YOUR SLR is welcomed ... cannot wait forever MS ! )

Anyway... look forward to Blue Betty being ready to go... battery charging.... and taking photos of the house before it's gone.... with in days... and the progress of the process.

keep calm & carry on !

wow... how much stress can one gal handle ?...  I cannot really make claim that I actually kept calm at all but I did carry on.... i did it !   "I" single handedly packed up our entire house & entertained the kids & fed the family & & & &....  oh, wait.. "ward" did pack the garage but as far as the rest of it... ME, ME, and ME !  (in his defense, I did tell him that I needed to pack the boxes... but that is because I didn't want CRAP packed and moved into the new house.  I wanted everything dusted and wrapped .... just right.

but... MOVING ON !  The bruises on my arms are fading... the sleepless nights are shorter (meaning I am getting more sleep) and my "anger and resentment"  for Ward is fading... thanks to the countless hours of "support" from my friend (Karina) and my sister.. who has provided the worlds widest and strongest shoulders for my hours of venting...

SO... let me share with you what all the LITERALLY blood, sweat and tears (lots of each) were for...

This is what is coming at the end of the month...

IMG_0952 looking toward the kitchen

IMG_0949  there is a FIRE PLACE  !

IMG_0976   not sure how i feel about the glass block... i think I need shutters up there...

IMG_0957 master bedroom... all window treatments  are included...

IMG_0961  oh... can't wait to soak here!

IMG_0965 I have my very first Walk IN Closet !

IMG_0923 there is a game room / play room

IMG_0936 the girls' room is huge.. like 14 x 14.  it will NOT be this dark brown... they are "arguing" on the color... and style.. this is NOT it though. there is a jack & jill bathroom that they will share. IMG_0919

then there is the media room... it has

IMG_0920 a microwave, mini fridge and a wet bar !

IMG_0978 love the cozy front porch....

ok.. well, that is all i can post for now because i have to feed the kids.(didn't they just eat?).... I have so many more photos of the new house but for some reason, i cannot upload them.. like the laundry room, the kitchen, the walk in pantry, the guest bedroom, the computer station, the dining room and the foyer !  You;ll just have to stop by once the house is set.  Hard to believe that this all comes on several trucks and is put together in a day then trimmed out in a 60-90 more days.

ok.. ok.. the girls are hungry.

xoxo  catherine...
PS... R.I.P. to my 1st husband... Michael Jackson. (he was my husband as a little girl when my sister and I would play house. I was very sad today watching his memorial service.. I celebrate the peaceful soul that I believe he had and his desire for PEACE ! (no comment on the odd behavior... but then which of us is not a bit odd in our own way... my heart breaks for his kids !)

oh no he Dei'ent!

WTF????

is this 1963 ????

Ward

These words were actually said TO ME...by my "DH" ... within the past 10 days....

I cannot make these up!.......

"I did not get married so that I could scrub toilets! ".....

"Could you give me some hint on how to pack a box. "....

"what? I went thru MY stuff. " (referring to the garage that needs to be packed)

"You know, the people I have talked to say that the woman always does all the packing of the boxes.  She won't let the man pack anything.  The man is allowed to only unpack."

I think I just might submit them to Hallmark for a new line of greeting cards.....

COMMENTS ARE WELCOMED AND ENCOURAGED.....

oh, and by the way... the bulldozer will be here in 14 days and " Ward " has decided that this is a GREAT time to go fishing for 5 days.... I have ALL the kids to entertain, feed, AND the finish packing the rest of the house.....

Out with the old... in with the NEW...

It has been C R A Z Y busy around here.... I am currently living among a sea of cardboard and packing tape.... cardboard boxes are everywhere... mostly packed.... because ....the house is coming DOWN !  finally !  I loved this cute litte 900 square foot bungalow that my "dh" bought in 1980 for $50,000.   It was built in 1942 ~  It shakes when the kids run thru... The wiring is OLD... The roof leaks... It has termites... But the time has come the walrus said ....

CJ post ce 06  (photo taken in 2006)... (for the MISSING circle journal...don't get me started on that THEFT )...Surprised at how many photos I have of the kids in the front yard... playing in the sprinkler, trick or treating, riding bikes... and NONE of them have the house in the background...I have never just taken photos of just the house... NOTE to self... do THAT !......Well, here we are, 2009... as far as I know No deaths have occured in this house...although several close calls as of late, I tell you, (moving is STRESSFUL)... Lives have been concieved here....Lots of "firsts" for many of those who have lived here...This little house has been added onto and "remodeled" as best as we could...as more children filled it we did what we could to be comfortable... but NO LONGER...

In approximatley 2 weeks... FOURTEEN DAYS... a bulldozer will be knocking her DOWN !  all to make way for....

IMG_0985

I can hardly wait.  I will share some interior photos a bit later... have to get the girls to bed as this is the LAST week of school.... 3 1/2 day left exactly !

I am exhausted.... the garage was unloaded / cleaned out and packed up today... 1/2 into a P.O.D. and 1/2 by the street with a "free stuff! please take anything"... and THEY did take!  Still a Peg Pergo stroller out there if you want it.... I am DONE with strollers !

So, good night. Sleep tight !  xo   Catherine

The Easter Bunny loves the beach...

And she is very smart....she knows how to get to an island...according to the 5 and 7 yearold imaginations in the Erhardt house... "she has a pink water car that she docks on the island to deliver Easter beach buckets with fun goodies... not much candy because the sand will stick to it and THAT is no good!... sand on your jellybeans... !"

IMG_1603 she even brought the egg dying stuff since there is no grocery store on the island... SHE was prepared ! AND.. she came on the Sunday before the actual EASTER Sunday... that way the girls had a whole week to play with the buckets and toys... see?.. smart bunny!

IMG_1602

We had such a RELAXING spring break.  The school scheduled it to start the Friday ... 10 days before Easter Sunday... 10 days! it was magical!

I will share just some various photos of the best place and girls in the world....

IMG_1670 Here is our "pet"... gopherous polyphemus ( gopher tortoise)... these guys and gals are all over the island... hidden in their burrows and come out to feed on grasses and love red hybiscus flowers... the girls love to feed them. (followed by estrigent hand washing !) This one lives in our back yard.  We look for it every morning and evening. There is a black snake that shares the yard and burrow... it is fun to watch from the deck with coffee !

IMG_1659 Some of my VERY BEST memories as a little girl .. about age 6... was when we'd find these gopher tortoises around our neighborhood my dad would paint the finders initials and the date on a very small portion of the shell and we always tried to find it again.  I don't remember the type of paint used but it was like fingernail polish but white.

AND... we'd tie a little wagon to a rope and then loop it around the tortoise's shell and it would pull us in the wagon... not at break neck speed mind you... but it was FUN !  Then of course,... the little friend was released back into the woods.  They are really quite amazing and date back to the time of dinosaurs.

And in no way connecting dinosaurs to the next photo... this is what READING looks like on the island....

IMG_1611

elizabeth... studying her subject and setting up to paint the sunset... CHILLY sunset that night... i need to photograph the actual painting... and edit this post with it.

IMG_1692

believe it or not... this contraption actually runs ! we came across it on a golf cart ride and it was delivering lumber to a site.... now you see why it takes over  2 years to build a house here!  look closely... see the steering wheel peeking out on the far side.... you should have seen the "seat"... there was none!

IMG_1694

IMG_1734

multi purpose Easter bucket / bonnet!

The beach was so LONG this week.  We loved it. I am sure it had something to do with the full moon... which was georgeous...I cannot describe the starry nights....no light polution to get in the way of the seeing the thousands of stars... or is it "billons and billions" (who said that?)  Carl ?????

IMG_1619

This is in my neighbors' yard... so charming! Whenever they have a guest come and stay with them they find something on which to piant their "details".... I am going to add one the next time we are down there.... erhardts...4 doors--->

IMG_1767 It really was a great break...so needed !  And lesson learned this trip....ALWAYS keep at LEAST 4 gallon jugs of water stored at all times... you never know when one of the pistons at the de-sal plant will break and leave you with nothing to wash the dishes or flush the toilets ... this was 10am Easter ! ... just as everyone's coffee was kicking in...The water supply to the island has since been restored...even if temporarily by running ???countless feet of pipe from the state park that is just north of our section of the island.... ugh!  I am grateful that I DID get the dishes "washed" (they will be REwashed as soon as i get back there) and the dish water was used to flush to toilets....

I am VERY grateful that I was not hosting a large party for Easter dinner that night...

OK.... one last photo.. i am getting sleepy and it is taking way too long to upload these ...

I had so much fun taking sunset photos.... especially the ones with so much color and the reflections....

IMG_1719

good night !

Maybe tomorrow I will share my most recent "challenge"  (why so many this year???)... My dishwasher flooded my kitchen and family room... thanks GOD... I came home just when I did and the leak did NOT happen while we were away for 10 days!
